Al final, es una batalla por el alma de la nación. En eso coinciden liberales y conservadores. La división es radical. El 3 de noviembre del 2020 quedará en la historia como el comienzo de una dramática transformación para Estados Unidos. Esta vez, aunque ojalá incruenta, no habrá tierra media en una colosal confrontación civil.

Paradójicamente, tras la derrota de Hillary Clinton en el 2016, fue Joe Biden el único líder demócrata que destacó los errores de su partido. Sorprendió al decir que esos obreros de Pensilvania, esos agricultores de Indiana y Tennessee, no eran racistas, misóginos, homofóbicos, en fin, deplorables. Hillary, y su cohorte de intelectuales (muchos, por cierto, sin dote de intelecto), no sólo desatendieron los reclamos de esa tradicional base, sino que, al igual que Obama, hicieron mofa del apego a sus costumbres, sus creencias y sus armas.

Lejos de corregir su rumbo, los demócratas siguieron ahondando un cisma cultural y moral que arrastra a las minorías en una autodestructiva cruzada contra la mayoría. Sin un programa viable de gobierno, la elite liberal apela al recurso totalitario de manipular la percepción de la realidad. Gigantes de la comunicación como Twitter, Facebook, CNN y The New York Times, entre otros, ejercen las funciones de leales órganos de censura y propaganda partidista. A su vez, la academia produce una mezquina reelaboración histórica de Estados Unidos y certifica los talking points de las turbas de guardias rojos que pintan de racismo el menor intento de debate y convierten al dueño de un grocery en Chicago y a un mecánico de Alabama en corruptos explotadores obligados a purgar, de manera simbólica y material, su “privilegio blanco”.

Respetables voces del exilio cubano han puesto su credibilidad en pantalla para asegurarnos que Biden y Kamala Harris no son socialistas ni comunistas. (Tampoco son otras muchas cosas que debían ser). Más urgente es decir lo que sí son. Biden es un caricaturesco dinosaurio del establishment, dispuesto por casi medio siglo a cambiar alianzas y traicionar promesas con tal de sobrevivir lo mismo un deshielo liberal que una glaciación conservadora. Harris es el fiel retrato de la incompetente oligarquía liberal de California. Una simple búsqueda en Google basta para encontrar los hitos de una trayectoria iniciada en el nepotismo que culminó en el estrepitoso fracaso de su insustancial candidatura a la nominación del Partido Demócrata. Ambos son los idóneos personajes para el pacto fáustico con los socialistas y los comunistas que hoy le empujan el carro y mañana le escribirán el libreto.

The world feels more dangerous. Our streets seem less safe. The assault on our values is constant. The threats feel real.
The enemy is out there — just check your feed.

One evening in late October 2014, a doctor checked his own pulse and stepped onto a subway car in New York City. He had just returned home from a brief stint volunteering overseas, and was heading to Brooklyn to meet some friends at a bowling alley. He was looking forward to this break — earlier that day he had gone for a run around the city, grabbed coffee on the High Line, and eaten at a local meatball shop. When he woke up the next day exhausted with a slight fever, he called his employer.

Within 24 hours, he would become the most feared man in New York. His exact path through the city would be scrutinized by hundreds of people, the establishments he visited would be shuttered, and his friends and fiancée would be put into quarantine.

Dr. Craig Spencer had contracted Ebola while he was treating patients in Guinea with Doctors Without Borders. He was not contagious until long after he was put into quarantine. He followed protocol to the letter in reporting his symptoms and posed no threat to anyone around him while he was in public. He was a model patient — a fact readily shared by experts.

This did not stop a media explosion declaring an imminent apocalypse. A frenzy of clickbait and terrifying narratives emerged as every major news entity raced to capitalize on the collective Ebola panic.

The physical damage done by the disease itself was small. The hysteria, however — traveling instantly across the internet — shuttered schools, grounded flights, and terrified the nation.

Social Media exploded around the topic, reaching 6,000 tweets per second, leaving the CDC and public health officials scrambling to curtail the misinformation spreading in all directions. The fear traveled as widely as the stories reporting it. The emotional response — and the media attached to it — generated billions of impressions for the companies reporting on it.

Those billions were parlayed directly into advertising revenue. Before the hysteria had ended, millions of dollars worth of advertising real-estate attached to Ebola-related media had been bought and sold algorithmically to companies.

The terror was far more contagious than the virus itself, and had the perfect network through which to propagate — a digital ecosystem built to spread emotional fear far and wide.

I’m going to tell you a few things you probably already know

Every time you open your phone or your computer, your brain is walking onto a battleground. The aggressors are the architects of your digital world, and their weapons are the apps, news feeds, and notifications in your field of view every time you look at a screen.

They are all attempting to capture your most scarce resource — your attention — and take it hostage for money. Your captive attention is worth billions to them in advertising and subscription revenue.

To do this, they need to map the defensive lines of your brain — your willpower and desire to concentrate on other tasks — and figure out how to get through them.

You will lose this battle. You have already. The average person loses it dozens of times per day.

This might sound familiar: In an idle moment you open your phone to check the time. 19 minutes later you regain consciousness in a completely random corner of your digital world: a stranger’s photo stream, a surprising news article, a funny YouTube clip. You didn’t mean to do that. What just happened?

This is not your fault — it is by design.

The digital rabbit hole you just tumbled down is funded by advertising, aimed at you. Almost every “free” app or service you use depends on this surreptitious process of unconsciously turning your eyeballs into dollars, and they have built sophisticated methods of reliably doing it. You don’t pay money for using these platforms, but make no mistake, you are paying for them — with your time, your attention, and your perspective.

This is not a small, technical shift in the types of information you consume, the ads you see, or the apps you download.

This has actually changed how you see the world.

The War for Your Attention

Before I go any further, let me assure you that this is not a list of grievances about the evils of technology. I am not a Luddite. Like much of humanity, I deeply value my devices as a helpful prosthesis for my memory, my productivity, and my ability to connect to the people I care about.

This is instead a sober evaluation of how the strategies of digitally capturing our attention have altered us — our lives, our media, and our worldview. These incremental shifts have added up to enormous changes in our politics, our global outlook, and our ability to see each other as fellow humans.

Many of the biggest problems we face in this moment as a society result from decisions being made by the hidden creators of our digital world — the designers, developers, and editors that create and curate the media we consume.

These decisions are not made with malice. They are made behind analytics dashboards, split-testing panels, and walls of code that have turned you into a predictable asset — a user that can be mined for attention.

They do this by focusing on one over-simplified metric, one that supports advertising as its primary source of revenue. This metric is called engagement, and emphasizing it — above all else — has subtly and steadily changed the way we look at the news, our politics, and each other.

This article is one of a series exploring how these strategies of capturing our attention are influencing our lives.

What follows is an exploration of how the primary artery of our factual information — the News — has been fundamentally altered by these methods.

How? Let’s look to the recent past.

The History of the New

“The Media” as we know it is not that old. For most of our history the News was, literally, the plural of the ‘New’ thing(s) people heard about and shared, and was limited by physical proximity and word-of-mouth. Since the invention of the printing press, the news consisted of notes posted in public places and pamphlets distributed to the small number of people who could actually read them.

Between the 18th and 19th centuries newspapers became fairly common, but were largely opinion rags containing political essays, sensationalized stories, and eventually muckraking. They were megaphones for people to exert political influence, and many had an extremely loose relationship with facts.

During the lead up to World War I, unchecked propaganda from all sides in the news reached a fever-pitch, with every belligerent participating in a massive fight for public opinion. By the end of the war it was clear that information warfare was a powerful weapon — it could raise armies, incite violent mobs, and destabilize whole nations.

In response to this systematic manipulation of the truth, there was a concerted effort to create an institution of fact-driven journalism beginning in the 1920's. This process was ushered forward by the advent of the first mass-media communication networks: national newspapers and national radio. These slowly gave way to television, and between these three new platforms, a global media system took hold — buoyed by the tenets of journalism.

The news continued to have competitors in the battle for attention, and because of this it continued to flirt with hyperbole. The drive to sell (papers, ads, products) is naturally somewhat at odds with the idea of editorial accuracy and measured factual reporting. Journalistic standards, libel laws, and industry-shaming became common mechanisms to help curb this slide into sensationalism.

Yet something happened recently when the news met the internet and began migrating into our pockets: it started losing the battle for our attention.

Mi especulación más cercana al tema, es de asociación con la Panspermia. “Panspermia es una palabra griega que se significa "semillas en todas partes". La hipótesis de la panspermia instituye que las "semillas" de la vida coexisten en todo el Universo y se propagan a través del espacio de un lugar a otro. Se cree que la vida en la Tierra puede haberse originado a través de estas "semillas". La teoría de la panspermia apareció en 1743, en los escritos del noble, diplomático e historiador natural francés Benoét de Maillet, quien creía que la vida en la Tierra había sido "sembrada" por gérmenes del espacio que caían en los océanos, en lugar de la conocida abiogénesis. Yo tiendo a especular en la “PANSPERMIA DIRIGIDA”

Tiendo a pensar que la vida en la Tierra puede haber sido sembrada por Extraterrestres avanzados como experimento de propagación y vida. Formación, terra formación o preparación y alineación de un ambiente favorable para para la vida. De todas formas, a estas alturas de “desarrollo” de la humanidad, mi amigo Mario Palou decía que éramos un “experimento fracasado.” Si los Extraterrestres que iniciaron el experimento nos visitan ahora, se van corriendo horrorizados y no vuelven jamás. O quizás nos salven de nuestra propia estupidez. Lo siento por ser algo escéptico con el tema. 😊

Vivimos tiempos de falacias "estructurales/sistémicas", palabras grandiosas que aplastan el espacio de la duda. ¡Ah la duda, enemiga de absolutos! Lo sistémico es tajante y terminante. De ahí que se repita jaculatoriamente en boca de muchedumbres ¿No se ha dicho que en la repetición está la verdad? 

El paragón de todas es la violencia estructural, que incluye otras, como la masculinidad tóxica, el racismo sistémico, el privilegio Blanco, y otras. Se dice que en cada una de estas mora la violencia.  

¿Pero de dónde sale la parte "sistémica" de estas enfermedades? 

Vayamos a ese ilustre movimiento de mitad del siglo XX llamado estructuralismo, con figuras como Claude Lévi-Strauss en la antropología, Louis Althusser en el marxismo y Michel Foucault en la historia. 

Así lo define Lévi-Strauss:

... los fenómenos de la vida humana no son inteligibles excepto a través de sus interrelaciones. Estas relaciones constituyen una estructura. Detrás de las variaciones locales de los fenómenos superficiales hay leyes constantes de estructura abstracta.  

Es patente que las leyes de la naturaleza exhiben estructura en lo respectivo a su causalidad. Invariablemente, la manzana del árbol que cae al suelo sigue una ley llamada "gravitación". Solo que nosotros los seres humanos no somos manzanas. 

Quién diría que el libre albedrío echaría a perder los pronósticos sistémicos. Sin embargo, hay otras aristas. El peor enemigo del estructuralismo, Jacques Derrida, aparece con su espada deconstrutora llamada differánce. Todo significado –y la idea "sistémico" es un significado– está llamado a llevarnos a otros significados, y así sucesivamente, dependiendo de nuevos contextos a que este significado aplique. Sucede que el proceso mismo de significación sigue posponiéndose en un tejido de diferencias sin fin a la vista. 

Reducir la complejísima naturaleza de las interacciones humanas a la idea de algo "sistémico" siempre estará llamado al fracaso. De ahí que las ciencias sociales sean consideradas CIENCIAS BLANDAS (lo apunto sin ánimo de ofender las Humanidades). 

Por ejemplo, tomemos "violencia estructural", concepto lanzado por el sociólogo noruego Johan Galtung en 1969, cuyas ideas preceden la llamada correción política de hoy en día. 

De acuerdo al artículo de Wikipedia (que traduzco del inglés), aquí un extracto de Galtung :

Se refiere a una forma de violencia en la que alguna estructura social o institución social puede dañar a las personas ... la discriminación por edad, el clasismo, el elitismo, el etnocentrismo, el nacionalismo, el especismo, el racismo y el sexismo, son algunos ejemplos de violencia estructural propuesta por Galtung.  Más que transmitir una imagen física, la violencia estructural es un "impedimento evitable de las necesidades humanas fundamentales". Se dice que la violencia estructural y la violencia directa son altamente interdependientes, incluida la violencia familiar, la violencia de género, los crímenes de odio, la violencia racial, la violencia policial, la violencia estatal, el terrorismo y la guerra. Aunque se dice que la violencia estructural es invisible, tiene una serie de influencias que la configuran. 

Obsérvese que en lo sistémico hay siempre una oscuridad hiperbólica imperante. No solo la violencia "sistémica" no transmite una "imagen física", sino que es además, "invisible". Pero no hay nada más visible que la violencia, que es definida como "acción física que se realiza con fuerza excesiva con la finalidad de causar daño". 

¿Para qué, entonces, hacerla "invisible"? Para manipular su significado.

Veamos cómo se aplica lo "sistémico" en el caso de una teoría muy de moda: la masculinidad tóxica. 

Hablando sistémicamente ya no se hace necesario que hablemos de casos específicos de hombres violentos. No, lo que se busca es la estructura que una irremediable e indisolublemente estos dos términos: VIOLENCIA y EL HOMBRE.  

Deseo ejemplificar el asunto con este artículo de Mark Manson, titulado Cuál es el problema con la masculinidad tóxica. Aquí el mensaje:

LOS HOMBRES COMETEN EL 76% DE LOS DELITOS VIOLENTOS EN EE.UU. LO SUFICIENTE PARA CONCLUIR QUE EXISTE LA MASCULINIDAD TÓXICA Y QUE ESTA ES SISTÉMICA.

Manson cita una estadística muy citada: En 2016, se cometieron 1, 200, 000 delitos violentos en Estados Unidos. El 76% de ellos fueron cometidos por hombres. El censo más reciente de 2010 indica que hay 151, 000, 000 de hombres en EE. UU, lo que indica que 912, 000 de hombres cometieron delitos violentos en 2016. 

912, 000 equivale al 6% de la población masculina del país. 

Bien, si Ud. asume que los números le dan la razón a Manson, Ud. está cometiendo la falacia de composición, que toma la parte por el todo. Que el 24% de los hombres en Estados Unidos mueran de enfermedades cardíacas cada año (y que estas muertes representen cerca del 80% de las muertes de hombres ese año), no significa en lo absoluto que los hombres en EE. UU. tengan el corazón débil.

Propongo un sencillo ejercicio lógico. La clase de HOMBRES tiene una subclase de HOMBRES VIOLENTOS, y esa a su vez contiene otra subclase de HOMBRES CRIMINALES VIOLENTOS. ¿Pueden visualizarlo? 

De ahí se desprende que hay hombres violentos que no son, ni serán jamás, criminales. Y hombres que no son, ni serán jamás, violentos. Hacer la clase de HOMBRES CRIMINALES VIOLENTOS representativa de la clase de HOMBRES es una conclusión de tarados. 

Lo mismo pueden hacer con cada una de las nociones sistémicas que expongo arriba. Siempre se derrumban.

• If a guy pretends to be a woman, you must pretend with him. (Everyone should be free to pretends how it feels, though I consider that private pretentions should not be imposed on others)

• Somehow, it is not American for the census to count how many Americans there are in the United States.

• The Russians who influence our elections are bad, but the illegals who vote in our elections are good.

• It was great for Joe Biden to "blackmail" the president of Ukraine, but it's an impeccable crime if Donald Trump asks about it.

• Twenty is too young to have a beer, but eighteen are old enough to vote.

• People who have never had slaves must pay slavery reparations to people who have never been slaves, but those who traffic cheap labor or minors as sex slaves, they do not have to pay for their misdeeds.

• Inflammatory rhetoric is outrageous, but harassing, insulting and beating people streets and restaurants for thinking deferential is virtuous and even laudable.

• People who have never attended college must pay the debts of college students who took huge loans for their degrees and then will charge good wages for it.

• Irish doctors and German engineers who wish to emigrate must go through a rigorous background investigation process, but any illiterate gangster who jumps the southern fence is welcome.

• $5 billion for border security is too expensive, but $1.5 trillion for "free" health care is not.

• If you cheat to enter college, you go to jail, but if you cheat to enter the country, you go to college for free.

• People who say gender does not exist and are supposed to fight racism demand a president, woman and black race.

• We see those countries adopting the socialist system collapse economically and morally, but we think it is a great plan for the future of this nation.

• Some people are responsible for things that happened before they were born, and others are not responsible for what they are doing right now.

• Criminals are caught and released to hurt more people, but stopping them is bad because it is a violation of their rights and freedoms.

And does pointing out all this hypocrisy in any way make us racist, homophobic, anti-migrant?

Nothing makes sense, no values, no morals, no courtesy anymore, and people die of a Chinese virus, but it's racist to refer to it as Chinese even though it started in China. Clearly we are living in an upside down world where right is wrong and wrong is right, where morality is immoral and the immoral is moral, where good is evil and evil is right, where condemning death killers is wrong, but killing innocent babies is right, where darkness is light and light is now darkness is darkness , where order is reproachable the applauding anarchy. Wake up America, the great unsinkable ship this Titanic, called America has crashed into the great iceberg called GLOBALISM, is making water and is sinking rapidly. The decision is ours. What's it going to be? Time is short, let's make our choice wisely!"

El problema es, ¿Cómo transmitir la elocuencia y la realidad del fracaso de los 61 años en Cuba y en otros países como Venezuela, al votante americano? ¿Cómo hacer que vean la realidad y el desastre de la proposición y la debacle con que sueñan los llamados “demócratas”, que por “coincidencia” odian a Trump, su gestión y a su persona que puede que estén ni siquiera relacionadas? Para los Milenios, la versión de socialismo que los “demócratas” y anarquistas liberales quieren imponernos, es un fantasma que nosotros bien conocemos en su entera realidad. Algunos me han dicho con incredulidad: “Eso nunca pasará en EU” Ja! Que sigan durmiendo de ese lado de la cama… El problema es que las decisiones equivocadas y el odio ciego de algunos, nos pueden afectar a todos. Parte de esas imposiciones socio liberales y su psicopatía Marxista es la llamada “diversidad” o la interpretación de la extrema izquierda de la vapuleada multiplicidad de etiquetas divisorias, recuerdo una cita de Voltaire: "Podré no estar de acuerdo con lo que dices, pero defenderé hasta la muerte tu derecho a decirlo". Se tildan de inclusivos cuando terminan siendo exclusivamente elitistas, aplastando todo tipo de tolerancia, oposición o libertad, y ponen en dudoso equilibrio la interpretación de su propia definición, que sacrifica sustancia, efectividad y realidad en su “aplicación”. En las Universidades de California cancelan cursos de Literatura Inglesa acusándolos de mentalidad burguesa, para financiar cursos de supuesta “diversidad.” Disminuyen la dificultad académica de los exámenes de ingreso y posiciones catedráticas, en aras de esa diversidad, y por ende las calificaciones finales de esos estudiantes menos preparados, bajan las notas finales por las que las Universidades son evaluadas. En Cuba, no me aceptaron en un curso introductorio de Humanidades por no ser de la Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas. Se trata de la misma proposición, el mismo lenguaje, método y retórica; el mismo fracaso de las industrias que quitaban expertos en manejarlas, para sustituirlos por miembros del Partido Comunista de Cuba para dirigirlas sin experiencia ni conocimiento. Todas las dictaduras son malas y peores son las del pensamiento de la masa amorfa del proletariado. Se trata de cancelar el balance constitucional, de poderes, de pensamiento, respeto y Humanidad de este país, que no es perfecto; pero que puede ser mejor sin destruirlo todo, por una ilusoria distopía que ni siquiera conocen y que mal imaginan. ¡Que experimenten con SU ABUELA, no conmigo, yo ya fui victima una vez, y ahora no hay para donde irse! Si, ese equilibrio entre lo ofensivo y la libertad, ha sido posible en este país, y ha mejorado gradualmente durante 200 años de balance. Hasta ahora siempre ha sido solo una discrepancia de método entre partidos; pero ahora estos políticos señores de bolsillo asiático, y su ejército anarquista, están tratando de destruir ese equilibrio en su avaricia de poder y millones. La diversidad en este país, había llegado a ser simbióticamente natural, automática. Estos esnobistas ideólogos de pacotilla tratan de forzar su pesadilla interpretativa de la diversidad con interminables etiquetas que separan, cancelan y aplastan violentamente todo conocimiento y humanidad sin el más mínimo debate o inteligencia. Yo prefiero que me ofendan a que me mientan. Creo que en la tolerancia al pensamiento subjetivamente ofensivo o no, están sus propios límites y los límites de nuestras libertades. El pensamiento debe ser intrínsecamente malvado y dañino para ser realmente ofensivo. El daño, el dolor y la maldad antinatural es el limite real de nuestras libertades, no el pensamiento o la opinión. El pensamiento ofensivo o no, no debe entorpecer la tolerancia ni nuestras libertades. Lo demás es socialismo y dictadura de las masas amorfas de voluntad y pensamiento.

DE LA EMIGRACION CUBANA POR EL MUNDO, DE LA BREVEDAD DE UN SUEÑO AMERICANO A LA PESADILLA CUBANA.

Si se ríen, lloran, o si terminan este artículo, déjenme saber… LOL La ambigua doble moral de algunos aun me sorprende, cuando tratan de malversar el sueño americano y de pasarle la mano a la tragedia cubana, a la desventura de la sistemática destrucción de un país, su economía, sociedad, nacionalidad e idiosincrasia. En una entrevista de turbia y doble intensión, en una publicación digital auto definida como “diario digital de los cubanos“ de nombre “madrid habana”, manipulan a un cubano deportado de EEUU. El apócrifo periodista, que no parece vivir en el paraíso cubano, (me pregunto por qué) pretende ignorar la tragedia que impulsa al cubano a huir de la debacle socialista. Precisamente, la pregunta que no le hizo este reportero al cubano deportado, es: ¿qué pasa con la libertad, las prisiones y la democracia socialista en cuba que te ha hecho emprender esta cruel aventura? El cambio cultural, de idiosincrasia y comportamiento del cubano después de la “revolución” cubana, no ha sido lógico, de esperar o evolutivo. Ha sido forzado por la ausencia total de una guía moral de comportamiento, de una estructura social funcional, el vacío creado y la incapacidad del nuevo régimen de sustituir el orden anterior por el inclusive peor resultado del paraíso prometido. Por ende, la arrolladora y desesperada huida migratoria del cubano hacia cualquier parte del mundo, bajo cualquier condición e inclusive pagando con el precio de su conciencia, de su país, y de su familia, es notable. Eso es lo que verdaderamente hace que la sociedad cubana tenga una vocación emigratoria, en contraste con la abundante inmigración que fluía hacia la isla antes del desastre socialista. Cuando yo decidí emigrar a los EEUU huyendo del hueco en que hundían a Cuba, llegué aquí con la intensión de integrarme a la cultura, al idioma y al modo de vida americano. Ese era mi sueño a pesar de los trucos de la nostalgia geográfica y cultural. Sin embargo, el síndrome del lavado de cerebros en las nuevas generaciones, cambió diametralmente la actitud de los recién llegados. Tan pronto llegan pretenden seguir viviendo aquí como en cuba, resultando en un transparente de culturas de la que el anglo nativo ha salido huyendo. Uno de mis primeros trabajos en cuanto pude integrarme y aprovechar las oportunidades que EEUU ofrece al inmigrante legal que está dispuesto a trabajar duro, fue trabajar en TWA. En mis viajes, me encontraba cubanos regados por los lugares más inverosímiles del mundo como Cairo (alquilando camellos), Tel Aviv, Roma, Madrid, Zaragoza, Calais, Nápoles, Milán, Berlín, Frankfurt, Berna, Lugano, Londres, Panamá, Maracaibo, Honduras, Guatemala, larga es la lista. Todos, escapando del paraíso socialista cubano. Ahora me encuentro con este artículo, supuestamente apolítico (ingenuo del que crea algo así) en la tal revista digital “madrid habana.” Publican una entrevista sobre la distorsionada pesadilla de un cubano desilusionado, resentido y deportado de regreso a cuba, por pretender entrar ilegalmente en EEUU. El ahora “complaciente”, triste y deportado cubano entrevistado, describe lo terrible de su periplo sin explicar que lo motivó a iniciarlo. No le preguntaron qué es lo que cree que impulsa a los cubanos al arriesgado itinerario que describe. Para empezar, a mí me parece que sus motivaciones son de una desesperación extrema de la que el gobierno cubano es responsable. ¿Quién es más cruel, EEUU que no es responsable de la debacle y el desastre cubano y no permite ya la inmigración desordenada, ilegal y de válvula de escape del castrismo, o el fracasado socialismo en el que insiste la corrupta elite comunista cubana? ¿Por qué EEUU tiene que ser responsable de lo que impulsa a este cubano a la necesidad de ayudar a su familia desde EEUU? La película que no cuenta este desafortunado cubano, no es la supuesta “crueldad” de las autoridades inmigratorias de EEUU, sino la crueldad de los agentes de la seguridad del estado cubano en las mazmorras del G2 (sin hablar de las muertes y fusilamientos), las turbas del terror revolucionario, CDRs y “brigadas de respuesta rápida”, o la destrucción de un país que obliga a sus habitantes a huir de él. Peor que el sinsabor de su travesía debe ser, la mala digestión y la tristeza de estar condenado y sin esperanzas a la tragedia de un país destruido por el socialismo. Me parece que ese el verdadero principio de esta historia.

Speculations of a layman about the Universe.

Trying to understand the Universe, Steven Hawking came up with one elegant equation representing all the branches of physics that may affect a Black Hole, showing a deep underlying unity in nature. Would we be able to reconstruct our souls one day? Is all that information destroyed forever? Or is it transformed and saved in Universes without Black Holes?

In an amazing world that we can barely comprehend, are we wasting our time trying to understand the Universe, its nature, its interactions and inner workings? Does cause and effect gets unrelated if information is supposedly destroyed in a Black Hole? This was a debate that lasted for 30 years or more. One of the most controversial theories in science so far: “The information Paradox or the Hawkins Paradox” which is a battle that begins at the birth of the Universe and touch deep inside the atom, into its particles, quanta and strings. Perhaps a unifying theory of everything, the very big and the very small. Steven Hawkins said that understanding in a sense, means that you are in control, or I would argue, it will give you the sense or the illusion of control. Hawkins started part of his fame, from trying to understand the relationship between the infinite small point of infinite gravity and infinite density in the Big Bang, and a Black Hole that begins with a momentum event: the dead of a star when it collapses in itself. Where a star has been, gravity becomes powerful and sucks in even light and radiation. At its center, gravity is so high that transform time and space, physics brake down, all matter collapsing into an infinitely small and dense single point, mimicking the singularity or the beginning of the Big Bang, and taking us closer to its understanding. At a Black Hole, space and time comes to an end and matter is crushed out of existence, taking us back to how time began in the Big Bang. Once matter cross the Event Horizon, it can never return. Hawking imagined and wanted, a complete mathematical description of a Black Hole, using different types of physics, some of which were incompatible and never been used together, picturing interactions between different forces of nature, including gravity and the quantum world of subatomic particles.

One of the fundamental principles of physics is that everything is made up of particles, and that the information encoded in these particles can never be lost. Are we not made of particles, our bodies, our brains, our minds? No brain, no mind, no consciousness, no “soul” right? No invisible force that appears to animate us”? In the 1960s, Nobel laureate Roger Sperry showed that the mind and our consciousness are divisible, therefore disproving that aspect of Descartes’s theory; but that is another conversation. However, is long been one of the most deeply held believes, that the information encoded in all particles, can never be lost. The consensus is that information never disappears, it can be scrambled, modified etc. It is a very basic principle of physics that information is never destroyed. According the laws of quantum physics, whatever you do to an object, you can always retrieve the information in the particles that make it up. So, if you collect the all the information about an object, you can reconstruct it from scratch. And this was the fundamental principle that Hawking challenged. So, is information and matter in the Universe lost when it enters a Black Hole? If that is so, it also must be happening in all kind of contexts, having the most dramatic effects in the ordinary world. If the Information Paradox is right, then parts of the Universe must be missing. Predictability does not work, and cause and affect are decoupled. Science nor our memories could be trusted, information will disappear, the Universe will be chaotic and nothing preserve over time, no correspondence between past and future. If is not right, are we all still around even after our deaths, dispersed, in other forms?

Since 1972 scientists were able to observe Back Holes. More that 100-thousand-miliions at this point, supermassive and maybe tiny Black Holes all across the Universe, including the ones we don’t see. If the Paradox Information theory were thru, all of these Black Holes were machines eating up information.  Leonard Susskind started talking about a contradiction that occurs at the Event Horizon in Black Holes. About of what would happen to any person, following into a Black Hole at the edge of the Event Horizon; as it falls in, it will be converted into electrons, protons, neutrons, just completely destroyed in its present form. From the perspective of the person falling in, nothing will be happening. This same equation for both perspectives, is saying that someone falling into a Black Hole will feel different experiences. Is also saying that this person could be both dead and alive. Leonard Susskind says that both stories or perspectives are true. So, the information of everything falling in, remained stretched at the edge of the Black Hole, and that means that information is not destroyed and is theoretically, possible to be retrieved. This is how the Information Paradox was supposedly solved and confirmed 10 years later in a paper by Susskind. Cause and effect are still related after all, our memories are safe. Or is all information destroyed in Black Holes and  across nature, and being kept in other Universes without Black Holes as per Hawking affirmed?
